Risk Assessments for Care Homes

This risk assessment document contains most of the usual hazards encountered in a typical care home and the risks they generate. Not only does it show the hazards and risks encountered it also shows who is likely to be harmed by those hazards and how. It goes even further by then detailing the normal control measures used to reduce the risk from that hazard to the lowest level reasonably practical. If you already have these in place simply tick off and your record is complete. If you do not you can adopt the control measures shown or insert your own.

The document is also available electronically so that it can be easily updated to suit your individual care home. This method of risk assessment has been tried and tested and saves a considerable amount of time and effort for the busy care home manager.

Risk assessment is a legal requirement and the regulator, CQC, will be looking to see evidence of suitable risk assessments as will the Health and Safety Executive or Local Authority Inspector, who enforce H&S legislation. In the near future they will soon be more active in the social care sector due to the high number of injuries to staff and residents. Local Authority Commissioning units will also be looking more closely at risk assessments as part of their checks before letting contracts to their suppliers.
