Health and Safety Training Courses

Certified by CIEH

Good health and safety practice makes good management sense. The cost in terms of lost working days, compensation claims or prosecution can be extremely bad for business. In 2008-2009 an estimated 29 million working days were lost in the UK through work related ill health or injury. Sadly deaths and serious injuries are still commonplace, yet so much can be avoided with just basic training. Both employers and employees need to be aware of the importance of health and safety.

At Central Mnagement Systems we specialise in health and safety for the education and the social care and health sectors. This means that your training is delivered by people who understand the problems associated in dealing with young and elderly people. This can be very different to the problems found in industrial workplaces.

We offer a range of health and safety training courses, many of which are run under licence from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, CIEH. The CIEH is the UK's leading awarding body for vocational qualifications in food safety, health and safety and environmental protection. All CIEH qualifications are externally regulated by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual), helping to demonstrate a high level of governance, expertise and quality assurance. Successful candidates gain a nationally recognised qualification which demonstrates your commitment to quality training. These courses also count towards demonstrating achievement of NVQ modules.

Courses available from CMS include:

These courses are run as public sessions when a suitable level of demand calls for them, but mainly we run them in house at your premises. This is a very effective and cost effective way to train your staff and enable them to gain a nationally recognised qualification in health and safety.

CMS courses developed for education and Health and Social Care

CMS have developed the following courses specifically for the Social Care and Health Sector. All too often we have had reports such as, "We attended a course but it seemed to be all about industry or warehouses". CMS courses are tailored specifically for the care sector. We understand the problems of dealing with the elderly, dementia and the range of hazards faced by community care workers going out alone.

The courses developed specifically for this sector will have more of an impact and enhance the learning and understanding of your staff, resulting in more action being taken when they return to their duties.

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

By 2010, anyone delivering training which is funded by the Government will need a PTLLS Certificate. This covers all courses whether they are delivered in the classroom or the workplace. The purpose of this qualification is to raise the standards of training for people in post compulsory education.

PTLLS will give teachers and trainers in post compulsory education a recognised qualification demonstrating their ability to competently and effectively deliver training and suitable assessments during the training.

This qualification has been developed to meet the needs of trainers and teachers in the lifelong learning or the adult education sector whether it is based in a college, workplace or in the community.

Central Management Systems can train and certify your staff to the Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. More information on this is available here:

Ensuring professional standards

To ensure you get the best training possible the courses are normally run by our in-house trainer who has years of experience in education and social care and health. He has run training for all levels of school and a great variety of independent care homes including children's care as well as care for the elderly. His experience covers both the private and public sector side of care and education. His brief profile can be viewed on the link below.

These courses are run as public sessions when a suitable level of demand calls for them, but mainly they are run in-house at your premises. This is a very effective and cost effective way to train your staff and enable them to gain a nationally recognised qualification in health and safety.
