Pregnant Workers Assessment Checklist

The Pregnant Workers Checklist is one of the packages from Central Management Systems to accompany your Risk Assessment package.

Available for both primary and secondary schools.

During the standard risk assessment for the school consideration is given to identifying and controlling the risks to health and safety of all people who work in or attend the school. If one of those workers happens to be pregnant, or is breast feeding, then further consideration will need to be given to ensure that none of the working conditions can cause harm to her or her unborn child.

This document describes a process to follow to identify such risks as well as a method of recording the assessment. It is a legal duty for employers to carry out such an assessment for pregnant workers. The regulations governing this assessment are the 'Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999' and their requirements are binding on all employers.

Pregnancy should not be treated as an illness, but as an every day part of life. Normal health and safety management procedures should therefore be able to cope with most of the hazards that will affect a new or expectant worker.
